When you send your horse for training at Gascon Horsemanship. you’re guaranteed a hard-working team around your horse. I (Michael Gascon) and our entire team at the ranch will make sure your horse gets the best possible care and treatment.

As the head trainer, I will be responsible for the training of your horse throughout the entire period he or she is here.

As part of that program, your horse will also be ridden and worked by other members of the team such as hired trainers and/or my Horsemanship Academy students to make your horse as forgiving as possible and used to a change of hands.

Whether it’s me riding your horse or one of my team members, all training follows our Gascon Horsemanship methods and is supervised by me to ensure top quality.

What Will My Horse Learn During Training?

Every horse is different and will advance on varied levels. However, the following is our typical basic standard for a horse that leaves here after 30 days as a colt starting horse.

Of course, this will vary for horses that come here with no human exposure and have to be unloaded off the trailer with no handling experience. Please have realistic expectations for horses that have to learn how to trust humans, being handled, and pressure and release system.

WORLD-CLASS HORSE CARE

Your horse will get the best possible care at Gascon Horsemanship. We have a full-time nutritionist on staff that will make sure your horse gets all the supplements and the right amount of grain. Breakfast is served at 7 a.m. and dinner at 4 p.m. daily.

Your horse will have free-choice grass hay available 24/7 and his stalls will be cleaned 6 days a week and re-bedded daily to ensure comfort.

YOUR HORSES’S SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY, SO ALL TRAINING HORSES ENJOY REGULAR TURNOUT BY THEMSELVES WITH NO DIRECT CONTACT WITH OTHER HORSES

Turn-out paddocks are rubber fencing with an electric fence barrier and used on rotation for play, rolling, playing in the water tub, and sun time. Each horse receives proper fly spray and sunscreen (if needed) before being turned out and then receives a full bath before coming back inside.

We believe horses need a day to rest and recover just like humans, so all training horses are worked 6 days per week and Sunday is a rest day.

In addition to the full-time nutritionist, we also have a farrier, equine chiropractor, and equine dentist at our ranch regularly. If your horse would need any of these services, feel free to let us know! Our farrier charges $50 for a trim and $100 for a full set of shoes.

I’m still riding the high of what can only be described as a truly life-changing experience. I went in expecting a traditional clinic—some instruction, a bit of riding, a few new tools to take home. What I got was a five-day immersive experience that completely transformed the way I think about horsemanship.

Michael Gascon was our main instructor, and let me just say—he is truly an unexpected personality in the horse world. With all of his accomplishments and accolades, he teaches with an incredible mix of humility, humor, and heart. He makes the learning fun, approachable, and real. No ego, no intimidation—just someone who genuinely wants you to win with your horse.

The lessons were presented in the most straightforward, easy-to-understand way No fluff, no complicated jargon—just real, effective methods that anyone can understand and apply. And while the concepts were simple, the impact was anything but. The techniques I learned are going to forever change how I communicate with and redirect my horse.

I didn’t bring my own horse this time, but that didn’t take away from the experience one bit. The Gascon horses are amazing—well-trained, professional-level show horses that can do anything you ask of them. Working with these horses gave me a chance to focus fully on learning, building my confidence, and really locking in the techniques. But make no mistake—next time, my horse is coming with me!

Another standout was the diversity of riders. We had dressage riders, trail riders, eventers, new riders, and folks who brought their “problem horses” looking for breakthroughs. It didn’t matter your background or experience—everyone was welcomed, supported, and grew in their own way.

And we played games!! But not just for fun. These were high-energy, carefully designed exercises that challenged us to communicate clearly, lead with purpose, and stay present. What seemed playful on the outside turned out to be some of the most impactful horsemanship lessons I’ve ever experienced.

The accommodations were cozy, the food was absolutely delicious (all home-cooked!), and the Gascon family? They welcome you like one of their own. I left with a new perspective, new skills, and a serious craving to go back again.

If you’re looking to grow—not just as a horseperson, but as a leader and partner to your horse—this is the place!

Horse and Human help!!!

I brought my horse—a full-blown fire-breathing dragon—to Michael Gascon for 60 days of training. At the end of it, I attended a weeklong clinic. I expected the usual: “Here’s your horse, we fixed the issues, good luck.” But what I got was absolutely life-changing.

My dragon turned into Puff the Magic Dragon.

The week wasn’t just about training my horse—it was about fixing me. Because, as it turns out, my horse was never the problem. I simply didn’t speak horse. Michael taught me how to speak horse—with a kind and gentle hand and heart. The entire atmosphere was overflowing with love, support, encouragement… and laughter.

Before MG, I was terrified to even get on my horse. After just two days, I was riding along relaxed, confident, and enjoying every second. Michael helped me work through my fears—tears and all—and his entire family was right there cheering me and my dragon on.

I learned to speak to my horse not just with my seat, hands, and legs—but with my heart.

Kelsey Gascon cheered me on daily, and Mr. Gascon himself was so soft-spoken and kind, I can only describe him as the horse world’s version of a loving father or grandfather.

This experience has forever changed me. If you truly want to learn to communicate with your horse—and be surrounded by love, kindness, and the most uplifting atmosphere imaginable—this is the place and these are the people for you.

Oh—and where else on Earth do all the desserts have no calories?

This sounds like a life-changing transformation for both you and your horse from the Horse Training you recieved! It’s amazing how Michael and his family not only helped you work through your fears but also taught you how to truly connect with your horse on a deeper level. The support and love you describe make it sound like a life-changing experience. And hey, who can resist a place where even the desserts are guilt-free!

Training for two

We are so happy with the weekly reports we are getting on Bishop and Patrick. So happy that we decided to take the plunge and haul them over 10 hours to get the best training possible for them. Miss them lots but sure they are learning to be the best horse/mule they can be.

Thank you for your kind words! We are so happy to hear that our training is providing such great results - we feel lucky to have been able to provide the best possible care for Bishop and Patrick.
